Floriade was first held in 1988 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Canberra and the 200th anniversary of European settlement in Australia. Initially planned as a one-off event, its resounding success led to it becoming an annual celebration. Each year, Floriade has grown and evolved, becoming one of Australia's most renowned flower festivals. Today, let's explore what makes this special event so captivating.

Floriade flower festival in Canberra.

Floriade typically takes place from mid-September to mid-October in Canberra's Commonwealth Park, situated alongside Lake Burley Griffin. During this time, the park transforms into a vibrant floral wonderland, showcasing over a million blooms arranged by talented gardeners and artisans.

Floriade is free to attend throughout its duration, allowing everyone to enjoy the floral wonderland. However, for four nights only, from October 3rd to 6th, 2024 (dates vary annually), a special ticketed event called "Night Fest" takes place, featuring mesmerizing light installations and artistic performances.

Ticket prices for this year's (2024) Night Fest are as follows: AUD 35 (approximately 600,000 VND) for adults, AUD 27 for children, and AUD 97 for a family pass. Children under 4 years old can enter for free.

Bellis Chrysanthemum (Bellis perennis).

Over 30,000 visitors are expected to attend Night Fest over its four-night run. Last year, Night Fest, in conjunction with Floriade, drew a staggering 433,271 visitors to Commonwealth Park, generating over AUD 50 million in revenue for the city—a testament to the festival's immense popularity and economic impact.

Red Tulips and Daffodils

The main attraction here is the diverse array of tulips, showcasing a kaleidoscope of shapes and colors, including purple, red, yellow, white, pink, and many more.

Interspersed among the tulips are other charming blooms, such as Narcissus (Daffodils), Daisies, and Bellis perennis, adding to the tapestry of colors and textures.

Each year, Floriade embraces a different theme, and this year, the 37th edition celebrates creativity with the theme "Art in Bloom."

Beyond admiring and photographing the flowers, Floriade offers visitors a chance to enjoy live music performances, comedy acts, and diverse culinary delights from around the globe. The 2024 festival features renowned British singer Emma Price, New Zealand comedian Shay Horay, and burlesque legend Memphis Mae.
