Yokohama is one of Japan's two most populous cities (along with Tokyo), and it's also just 30 minutes by train from Tokyo. In contrast to the hustle and bustle of Toyko, Yokohama for me is a very peaceful city, with fresh air, and does not feel stuffy like in Tokyo.

Today, let's follow me to explore the most famous places in Yokohama 😉

Famous places here are also located quite close to each other, so moving is much easier. The first place I visited was Yokohama China Town, the largest Chinatown in Japan.

Entrance gate of China town.

This street is about 1km long with all the shops on both sides of the street are restaurants or Chinese souvenirs, and are open all day.

Shops selling traditional Chinese food such as dumplings, milk tea, gourd candy, roast duck... are located all along this street.

I started the morning with panda dumplings 😀

Next is traditional Chinese gourd candy. It's harder than I imagined 😀

The exit gate of China Street is also very big.

Next, I visited the Guan Yu temple nearby.

Guan Yu is a general widely revered as a cultural symbol of loyalty, courage, and steadfastness among the Chinese people. This is also the main character worshiped at this temple.

The statue of Guan Yu is worshiped here.
The temple is also decorated with many exquisite details.
Outside of the temple. Very large.

After visiting and taking photos of this area, I returned to Chinatown for lunch.

There are many buffet-style restaurants here, the dishes are also very diverse, the menu is also placed in front of the restaurant for everyone to choose from.

Hong Kong Street.

After exploring Chinatown, I moved to the next famous place, just over 500 meters away, which is Gundam Factory Yokohama.

Address: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GoH9z8nC7eaxautR7

Gundam Factory is an entertainment complex located next to Yamashita Pier, in which the main character is a 1:1 scale and movable Gundam RX78 F00 model. This is also one of the largest Gundam models in the world to do this.

(See more articles about Gundam models in Tokyo at HERE)

To visit, you need to buy tickets at the door, or you can buy tickets online at the factory's official website at HERE. Ticket price is 1650 JPY for adults, and 1100 JPY for children 7-12 years old.

This “factory” was built from December 19, 2022, the 40th anniversary of the famous Gundam brand. But unfortunately it will close permanently on March 31, 2024.

The Gundam model is in a "preparation" state before starting to perform.

You can see the performance start times below, to conveniently arrange your time!

Performance times on weekdays.
Performance times on weekends and holidays.

Let's see some pictures from Gundam's performance show:

This is the time to start moving.

Start kneeling and move the model's head.

This performance is quite dramatic along with the character's music and narration.

This segment impressed me the most, after the Gundam regained its strength and stood up on its own.

And then there was the appearance of the controller inside the Gundam. Extremely impressive.

You can watch the full video of Gundam's performance that I recorded here:

In addition to the front viewing area of the Gundam model, you can also go to the high area and see the head and body of the Gundam at a very close position.

High observatory (right side of Gundam model).

If you want to experience this service, you will also need to purchase tickets from the factory's homepage. Ticket price is 3,300 JPY for both adults and children.

In addition to the Gundam model area, there are also many other attractive services here, such as Gundam Café, a shop selling models with Gundam-related souvenirs, and a movie theater about the process of building billion-dollar Gundam models. 1:1 ratio, or Gundam "laboratory" - where there are robots that automatically assemble Gundam models.

Everyone, remember to enjoy the special dishes at Café Gundam before moving to the next location.

The last place I want to introduce to you is Yokohama Red Brick Building - Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse.

Address: https://maps.app.goo.gl/DcHHyTrWD4R6cF8c9

The red brick building is also only 2km from Gundam Factory, about 10 minutes by bus. Very convenient for moving. This is like a small island located next to Yokohama Port, where the city's special seasonal events take place, and is also an ideal place for people to picnic and enjoy local dishes.

At the time I visited (early August 2023), the event ""The 2023 Pokémon World Championships” – the world's largest Pokémon tournament was held for the first time in Japan.

Opening is a super adorable performance by Pikachu.

There are 2 more Pikachu 😀

Let's see some more photos I took of Pikachu :v

Going to interact with the audience 😀

There are also many models of other Pokémon decorated everywhere.

In addition to this red brick building area, you can also take scenic walks at the nearby park and beach.

The super yacht Princess Cruise is moored at the port.

And finally, to end your journey to explore Yokohama, you can visit Yokohama Cosmo World - home to the world's largest sun wheel and the Cup Noodles Museum Yokohama.

On the way back to the train station, you can also choose to take the cable car and see Yokohama city at night, starting from Unga Park station, 300 meters from Yokohama Cosmo World. The cable car will arrive at Sakuragicho station, very convenient for traveling to Tokyo or surrounding provinces.
