Japan seems to be very favored by nature with flowers blooming all year round (except winter). After March and April are filled with the pink colors of cherry blossoms and wisteria, then comes May. continues to shine brightly in red and pink with azalea flowers (Tsutsuji). Today, I will introduce to you the most beautiful place to view azalea flowers in the Kansai region - Japan, which is the azalea plateau in Katsuragi mountain - Nara.

How to get there: First you need to go to JR Gose or Kintetsu Gose station.

The closest train station to Katsuragi Highlands is Gose Station.

The bus stop is located in front of Kintetsu Gose station, go straight to the end point which is Katsuragi Ropeway Zen Bus Stop. Then take the cable car to the top of Mount Katsuragi.

Cable car ticket price: 1000 JPY for 1 way up, and 1500 JPY for 2 ways up and down.

After taking the cable car, just climb about 500 meters more to reach the azalea plateau.

On the top of the mountain there will still be a restaurant to serve customers, in addition there will be shops selling snacks such as ice cream, grilled Dango, etc.

Dango grilled with honey.

After that, we will reach the first check point, Yamatokatsuragisan, with an altitude of 959 meters.

This mountain is an extremely suitable place to have a picnic with relatives and friends.
And finally, our destination today.

There are many places here for people to sit, eat, rest, or take check-in photos.

Or you can be creative like this 😀

The landscape here is divided into 3 separate beautiful colors, the red of the azalea flowers, the green of the trees on the mountain range, and the color of the clouds in the background.

And standing from the top of the mountain, you can easily see people resting and picnicking below. The scene is quite peaceful.

From the mountain down, there are many trails turning in different directions, you can go in many directions to have a variety of angles for taking photos.

Today I chose a small trail in the middle of the mountain because there were quite a few people walking, and there were many corners of trees growing into circular arches, quite beautiful.

Along the way, there are many beautiful shooting angles like this.
Or shooting angles looking down like this.

Azalea flowers here also have quite a variety of colors, from pink, purple, light red to dark red,...

A pink azalea tree is located in the middle of a forest of red flowers.
The most famous view of the mountain, the trail with a forest of azalea flowers on both sides.
Really overwhelmed with this scene. View from below to the top of the mountain.
There are also lots of places for people to sit and picnic at the bottom.

There is no convenient supermarket here. If you want to buy picnic items with friends or relatives, you should prepare them in advance and bring them here.

Rest and picnic areas for everyone are below.

Let's take a look at some of my shooting angles when shooting from bottom to top of the mountain:

The cable car will operate until 5:00 p.m., to avoid crowding, you should leave at 4:00 p.m. Additionally, if you want to watch the sunset here, you can also walk along the trail from the top to the bottom of the mountain.

The best time for flowers to bloom is from May 10 to May 17 every year, remember to check the weather before coming here.
