Oita is a prefecture located in the center of Kyushu, Japan. This place is extremely famous for its many natural hot springs, and is also the place with the largest concentration of underground water in the world. Not only that, Oita also has many ancient villages located along the high mountains, and today, I will introduce to you an ancient village with quite special architecture, in European style, that is Yufuin Floral Village.

Yufuin Floral Village.

The village is inspired by the Cotswolds region of England, famous for its ancient stone houses, with a distinctive honey-yellow colour.

The easiest way to get here is by car. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Hakata Station, which stops at 9 locations in about 2.5 hours. However, it is recommended to rent a car to be more proactive in your travel.

When you arrive in Yufuin, you will pass through an old street called Yunotsubo, which sells many souvenirs as well as local foods.

Yufuin Village is completely free of admission, which is why there are quite a lot of tourists here. To take the best photos, you should come here early.

Inside the village are dozens of souvenir shops, selling items from famous world movies and cartoons.

As soon as we enter the village, we can immediately see the extremely cute Totoro store.
This is a popular photo angle when visiting Yufuin Village.

People can also experience taking photos with owls and transforming themselves into traditional school uniforms in the Harry Potter movies in this village.

Although there are many shops, the area of this village is not very large. It took me just over an hour to take a photo of the whole village. You can combine it with famous places nearby such as Kinrin Lake or Yunotsubo Old Town.

Kinrin Lake is very famous during the red leaf season.

And above is my article introducing the “fairy tale village of Yufuin”. If you are planning to travel to Oita, don’t forget to visit Yufuin. You can also combine a visit to Yufuin with Beppu, a famous place with many natural hot springs, loved by many tourists in Oita prefecture.
