Yokohama is one of Japan's two most populous cities (along with Tokyo), and it's just a 30-minute train ride from Tokyo. In contrast to the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, Yokohama feels like a very peaceful city, with fresh air and a more relaxed atmosphere, without the stuffiness you often experience in Tokyo.
Today, let's follow me to explore the most famous places in Yokohama 😉
The famous places here are also located quite close to each other, making it easier to get around. The first place I visited was Yokohama Chinatown, the largest Chinatown in Japan.
Address: https://maps.app.goo.gl/8pfiYR4jvWYs8VADA

This street is about 1 km long, with shops on both sides selling restaurants and Chinese souvenirs, and they stay open all day.

Shops selling traditional Chinese food such as dumplings, milk tea, candied fruit, roast duck… are located all along this street.

I started the morning with panda dumplings 😀

Next is traditional Chinese gourd candy. It's harder than I imagined 😀

Next, I visited the Guan Yu temple nearby.

Guan Yu is a general widely revered as a cultural symbol of loyalty, courage, and steadfastness among the Chinese people. He is also the main deity worshiped at this temple.

After visiting and taking photos of this area, I headed back to Chinatown for lunch.

There are many buffet-style restaurants here, offering a wide variety of dishes. The menu is conveniently displayed in front of the restaurant, allowing everyone to choose what they’d like.

After exploring Chinatown, I moved to the next famous place, just over 500 meters away, which is Gundam Factory Yokohama .
Address: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GoH9z8nC7eaxautR7
Gundam Factory is an entertainment complex located next to Yamashita Pier, where the main attraction is a life-sized, movable Gundam RX78 F00 model. It is also one of the largest Gundam models in the world capable of such movement.
(Read more about the Gundam model in Tokyo in this article HERE)
To visit, you need to buy tickets at the door, or you can buy tickets online at the factory's official website HERE . The ticket price is 1650 JPY for adults, and 1100 JPY for children from 7-12 years old.

This “factory” was built on December 19, 2022, the 40th anniversary of the famous Gundam brand. But unfortunately, it will close permanently on March 31, 2024.

You can find the performance start times below to help you plan your visit accordingly!

Let's see some pictures from Gundam's performance show:

This is the time to start moving.

Start kneeling and move the model's head.

This performance is quite dramatic, featuring character music and narration that add to the overall experience.

This segment impressed me the most, especially when the Gundam regained its strength and stood up on its own.

Then, the appearance of the controller inside the Gundam was revealed, which was extremely impressive.
You can watch the full video of Gundam's performance that I recorded here:
In addition to the front viewing area of the Gundam model, you can also go to the elevated area to see the head and body of the Gundam up close.

If you want to experience this service, you will need to purchase tickets from the factory's homepage. The ticket price is 3,300 JPY for both adults and children.
In addition to the Gundam model area, there are also many other attractive services, such as the Gundam Café, a shop selling models and souvenirs related to Gundam, a movie room about the process of building 1:1 scale Gundam models, or the Gundam "laboratory" - where there are robots that automatically assemble Gundam models.

Everyone, make sure to enjoy the special dishes at Gundam Café before heading to the next location.
The last place I want to introduce to you is the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse.
Address: https://maps.app.goo.gl/DcHHyTrWD4R6cF8c9
The Red Brick Building is just 2 km from Gundam Factory, about a 10-minute bus ride, making it very convenient to reach. It’s like a small island located next to Yokohama Port, where the city's special seasonal events are held, and is also an ideal spot for picnics and enjoying local dishes.

At the time of my visit (early August 2023), the event " The 2023 Pokémon World Championships " was taking place here - the world's largest Pokémon tournament held for the first time in Japan.

Opening is a super adorable performance by Pikachu.

There are 2 more Pikachu 😀

Let's see some more photos I took of Pikachu :v

Going to interact with the audience 😀

There are also many models of other Pokémon decorated everywhere.

In addition to the red brick building area, you can also enjoy scenic walks at the nearby park and beach.

And finally, to end your journey of exploring Yokohama, you can visit Yokohama Cosmo World - home to the world's largest sun wheel and the Cup Noodles Museum Yokohama.

On the way back to the train station, you can also opt to take the cable car and enjoy a night view of Yokohama city. It departs from Unga Park station, just 300 meters from Yokohama Cosmo World, and travels to Sakuragicho station, which is very convenient for reaching Tokyo or the surrounding areas.
