Quoc Tu Giam, Vietnam's first university, was established nearly 1,000 years ago and served as a place of learning for the children of ancient royal mandarins.

Initially, in 1070, King Ly Thanh Tong built the Temple of Literature to honor Confucian saints and ancestors while also providing a place for Crown Prince Ly Can Duc to study.
