Nara is a renowned destination for autumn leaves in the Kansai region of Japan. In addition to the vibrant red momiji in Nara Park, the ginkgo trees in Tenri City draw many visitors each November, eager to admire and photograph their beauty. Today, I’ll introduce you to one of the most stunning golden avenues (yellow-leafed streets) in Tenri City. Let’s explore!

This golden avenue is only a 10-minute walk from Tenri Station, making it incredibly easy to access.

The best time to visit this road is the first 3 weeks of November. The time I went was November 12, 2023, which is also the time of the “pedestrian paradise” event (歩行者天国).

During the event (10am – 10pm on Saturday and Sunday, November 11 and 12, 2023), this road will be closed to traffic and reserved for pedestrians, allowing for photography here.

Despite the heavy rain (as usual :D) during my visit, many people still came to admire and take photos, which truly proves the undeniable charm of this golden avenue.

Many people came early to take photos.

On Sunday (November 12), there will also be a parade event called “Hokotenri” (ほこてんり) with performances by the Nara Prefectural Police and the Leon marching band of Tenri University.

The parade started at 1:00 PM, and thankfully, the rain had stopped by then, allowing everyone to enjoy the event.

The Nara Prefectural Police parade.

This event was first held in 2022 and continued this year, becoming an exciting annual tradition.

A very impressive performance.

Next was the Tenri University performance.

The event attracted a large audience.

The final performance of the parade was also the most impressive one for me.

The event ended after about an hour. You can see the annual event schedule HERE .

This year marked the first time the ginkgo trees on this street were illuminated, with the lights shining from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on November 10th, 11th, and 12th.

Let's take a photo tour of this avenue.

Besides the main street, the scenery on both sides is also very beautiful.
A cute moment I happened to see.

There’s also a spot where you can capture a panoramic view of the entire avenue from above—the pedestrian bridge.

The ginkgo leaf is also a symbol of Tenri City.

The rain also makes the yellow color more beautiful.

Let's see some portraits I took here:

Today's model is a very cute Japanese girl, adding a lovely touch to the photos.

Her style is also very cool.

Actually, the row of yellow leaves in Tenri – Nara is one of my favorite yellow leaf roads, because the space is wide, and you can comfortably walk and take pictures on the street.

Don't forget to add Tenri to your list of must-visit places for golden leaves in Kansai; its beauty will surely not disappoint!
