Sunflowers in Japan typically bloom from late July to early August each year. Besides hydrangeas, there are several places in the Kansai area where you can enjoy the sight of sunflowers. Today, I’ll be introducing some beautiful sunflower gardens in the Kansai region, so stay tuned!

  1. Sunflower hill park in Ono, Hyogo

Address: https://maps.app.goo.gl/uwrcbjAT7gMnxGkE6

Sunflower garden in Ono, Kyoto.

This is probably the largest and most beautiful sunflower viewing spot in the Kansai area. The only downside is that it's located quite far from major cities like Osaka or Kyoto (about 70km from Osaka and 90km from Kyoto).

The train and bus travel time to get here is about 2 and a half hours from Osaka or Kyoto, with a one-way cost of approximately 2500 JPY.

To save more time and travel costs, you can also rent a car to drive here (about a 1 and a half hour drive). The very large parking lot is also completely free.

Here, there are about 5-6 extremely large gardens located close together, each filled with a variety of sunflowers.

In the middle of each garden, there is a path, making it easy for people to walk through and take photos.

In addition to this area, there is also a park and play area specifically for children. Everyone can bring picnic supplies here to enjoy with their family and friends.

Let's take a look at some of the pictures I took here:

Near this garden, there are also many restaurants. Here are a few you can refer to:

In addition, just to the right of the sunflower garden, there are many beautiful rice fields growing. You can also walk over here to take photos.

This is also a very popular location among photographers, so make sure not to miss this incredibly large and beautiful spot.

The sunset here is also amazing. If you go by car, you can stay here and take photos of the sunset too.

2. Oharano Sunflower Field (大原野ひまわり畑) in Kyoto.

This location is perfect for those in Kyoto who prefer not to travel far. It’s only about 50 minutes by train from Kyoto Station, and the cost is just around 500 JPY!

Although the campus is much smaller than the garden in Ono, this place is extremely peaceful and quiet, as not many people know about it. It’s perfect for those who prefer to avoid crowded places.

The special thing about this garden is that it features black-petaled sunflowers, which everyone should definitely not miss.

In addition, this garden is located near the "second bamboo forest in Kyoto" that I’ve written about on my blog before. If you have extra time, you can also visit the bamboo forest to take photos!

You can read my article about Kyoto's second bamboo forest again here HERE .

3. Yodo, Kyoto

Although not a famous place, it meets two important criteria: it's close (for those in Osaka and Kyoto), and very few people visit.

4. Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park in Osaka

Address: https://maps.app.goo.gl/NkuzmTWY8jDFWRVV7

A park that is extremely familiar to those who live in Osaka, this park has a very large campus filled with seasonal flowers. It’s also a great choice for those in Osaka who don’t want to travel far to the locations mentioned above.

Above are a few places where you can see sunflowers in cities across the Kansai region of Japan, including Kyoto, Hyogo, and Osaka. I hope this article helps make it easier for you to choose a place to enjoy sunflowers this August. If you know any other beautiful spots, feel free to comment below and share with everyone!
