In Japan, there are often huge fields of rapeseed flowers, interspersed with cherry blossoms, creating a beautiful scene every spring. Almost all regions in Japan have fields and gardens like this, from Kyushu, Kansai, Kanto to Hokkaido. (You can also review my article about the early blooming cherry blossom park and rapeseed flowers in Matsuda HERE ).
Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a breathtakingly vast garden where golden canola flowers beautifully intertwine with delicate cherry blossoms. Located in Nara, within Japan’s Kansai region, this stunning spectacle unfolds at the canola flower garden of Fujiwara Palace.

You can easily reach this enchanting spot by train and a short walk. The nearest train station to the area is Miminashi Station.

Don’t miss the chance to take photos with the train as it passes by! This is a local train with only two carriages, giving it a cute and charming look.

Perhaps not many people know, but Fujiwara has a rich and ancient history. It served as Japan’s second capital during the Nara period (710–794). By the 8th century, Fujiwara-kyō had flourished into a vibrant cultural center, home to grand palaces, majestic temples, and monumental structures.

However, today, only the remnants of the ancient palaces remain, including palace ruins, temples, burial mounds, and breathtaking flower gardens. Besides the canola and cherry blossom gardens, this place is also renowned for its stunning cosmos flower fields, serene lotus ponds, and more.

You can also easily reach this place by car. Conveniently, there is a spacious parking lot located right in front of the garden.

Unlike the bustling crowds at other cherry blossom viewing spots in the Kansai region, the atmosphere here is remarkably peaceful and relaxing. This may be partly because it is located quite far from major city centers, keeping it off the typical tourist radar. From what I observed, most visitors here are locals, with very few tourists in sight.

When I visited on March 31, 2024, a few cherry trees had already started to bloom. The peak bloom was expected between April 5 and April 20, as the cherry blossoms in 2024 were blooming about 1–2 weeks later than usual.

This area is incredibly spacious and open, making it a perfect spot for picnics. Many visitors bring along food and blankets to relax and enjoy the serene surroundings.

Ngay cả thú cưng cũng được mang rất nhiều đến đây để chụp ảnh .

Let's take a look at some photography angles in this area.

Even just standing outside the garden, you can take in a breathtaking, fairy tale-like scene.

Fluffy dresses are extremely suitable for the mustard flower garden.

Remember to prepare beautiful accessories to take the best photos here.

Khu vườn cũng là địa điểm ưa thích của những chú ong .

There are already cherry trees blooming their first flowers.

Two quite satisfactory photos of me today.
This area also sells some Japanese snacks, such as dango, mochi, strawberries, etc.

Some ideas for taking photos with Dango.
Besides snacks, there are several eateries around the garden. If you plan to stay for a long time and take photos, it’s a great idea to buy food here and enjoy a picnic amidst the beautiful scenery.

Right next to the mustard flower garden, there is also an incredibly long row of cherry blossom trees. Be sure not to miss this breathtaking sight!

At this point, you’ve completed a full tour of the stunning mustard and cherry blossom gardens in Fujiwara. This is a perfect spot for picnics with family and friends, as well as a must-visit photography destination in the Kansai region during spring.

This flower garden is incredibly spacious, providing plenty of room for everyone to take photos. However, please be mindful of the signs prohibiting entry into the middle of the garden to help preserve its beauty and maintain the landscape for all visitors!
